Feb 04   2016 Brownwood Economic Summit
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce announced this week that registration for the 2016 Brownwood Area Economic Summit is currently underway. The event will feature Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar as the keynote speaker.  The summit will be held on February 4th at Howard Payne University's  Bullion Suites in the HPU Mabee Center  from 7:30 AM to 11 AM.

Elected in November 2014,  Hegar serves as Texas’ treasurer, check writer, tax collector, procurement officer and revenue estimator.  Before becoming Comptroller, he served in the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate, and also served as chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission, which works to eliminate inefficiency in government agencies.

Also speaking at the event will be Guy Andrews, Brownwood Economic Development Corporation; Robert Puls, Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas;  and Gary Twiford, Heartland Association of Realtors.  The speakers will give an in-depth look at the local and state economy regarding sales tax, employment statistics, the real estate market, current trends and more.
The 2016 Brownwood Economic Summit is presented by TexasBank.  Gold sponsors include Coldwell Banker, Mark Campbell & Associates and Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Moseley Real Estate.  Silver sponsors are Texas State Optical and the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, with the program from 8:30 AM  to 11 AM.  Cost of the Economic Summit is $15 for Brownwood Chamber members and $25 per person for non-members.

A two-week exhibit of over 100 works by Texas artists. The juror for the exhibit is Warren Taylor, renowned watercolor artist, educator, and lecturer. In addition to the exhibit,each day three different artists from a variety of disciplines will demonstrate their art on weekdays, 9am-3pm.

Have a business idea? Present your idea for the chance to win $15,000. The first round will be held at the Early Chamber of Commerce on February 11th. Participants will present an Elevator Pitch in 2 minutes or less for the opportunity to advance to the final round where they will pitch to local investors. Grand Prize winner will receive $15,000.

Feb 13   Stars of Texas Paint-Off Competition
Participants are required to register and have their painting surface stamped before beginning. All tasteful matter 2D media is accepted. Artists may work from life, plein air, personal photo or value study. Artists may offer their works for sale by silent auction and set the opening bid. A 25% fee will be collected on paintings that sell. All works must be completed by 3:30 pm and displayed unframed on easels provided by the artists. At that time, the silent auction will end, the judging will begin, and the Big Country Ford Lincoln awards of $250 and $500 will be announced at 4 p.m.

Feb 19   Brown County Candidate Forum - Luncheon
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the Early Chamber of Commerce will host a forum for candidates running for Brown County Commissioner in the upcoming Primary Election. 
The forum will be held on Friday, February 19th at the Brownwood Country Club with the buffet lunch opening at 11:30 AM and the forum beginning at noon.
Candidates include: Brown County Commissioner Precinct 1 - Gary Worley (Incumbent), Tommy Blevins, Jimmy Trowbridge and Bob Contreras.  Brown County Commissioner Precinct 3 - Wayne Shaw (Incumbent), Pat McLaughlin and Jessica Acker.
Questions for the candidates may be submitted in writing prior to the forum by emailing director@brownwoodchamber.org. 
The luncheon is sponsored by Bruner Auto Group and Howard Payne University. Table sponsor is Batts Communications.   Door prizes will be provided by Cook's Fish Barn Restaurant & Catering, Elliott Electric Supply Co. and Heartland Mall.
