Feb 05 - Feb 17   Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit
A two-week exhibit of over 100 works by Texas artists. The juror for the exhibit is Ben Sum. He is a professor of Art at San Angelo State University where he teaches painting and drawing. He has conducted many portraiture workshops as well as participated in many mural projects in Hong Kong and West Texas. In addition to the exhibit,each day three different artists from a variety of disciplines will demonstrate their art on weekdays, 9am-3pm.

Feb 07   Legislative Day in Austin
Business and community representatives will travel to Austin to meet with elected officials, commissioners and lawmakers as the new legislative session gets underway.   With a newly elected State Representative and State Senator for our area, this trip will be vital for Brown County in developing a relationship with state lawmakers.  

The laws being proposed this year can directly impact your business and our community.  This is your chance to talk with these lawmakers face to face in Austin.

Feb 15 - Feb 25   First Baptist Church Spring Basketball League Registration
The First Baptist Church of Brownwood will host its First Annual The BRICK Spring Basketball League for adult men and women to run for five weeks starting the week of February 28, 2017 through April 8, 2017. First Baptist Church and The BRICK Spring Basketball League wants to produce a casual setting to uphold the Gospel of God's grace and offer a safe environment that helps build the body of Christ through fellowship and recreation. Registration is required and will be held January 23, 2017 through February 25, 2017. There is a one-time registration fee of $40 per team. Teams are asked to register online by visiting www.fbcbrownwood.org/resources and finding February 28th on the event calendar. Feb 16   Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra
The Arts Council of Brownwood is pleased to announce that the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will be performing on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dorothy McIntosh Fine Arts Center at Brownwood High School.
They will be conducted by Daniel Black, Assistant Conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. As assistant conductor, he conducted over 60 concerts in 2014-15, and received critical acclaim for his performance of Handel’s Messiah.
The program will include:
 Overture to William Tell, by Rossini
 Concerto No. 2 in D major for Flute and Orchestra, by Mozart
 Symphony No. 8 in G major, by Dvořák

Feb 17   Stars of Texas Paint-off Competition
12TH  ANNUAL PAINT -  OFF COMPETITION: The Stars of Texas will again host the well received Paint-Off Competition on Friday. February 17th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.  Two cash prizes of $500 and $250 will be awarded to the winners.  Work must be completed on site by 3:30 and displayed unframed on easels provided by the artists. At that time the silent auction will end and the judging will begin. Awards will be announced at 4:00. Art may be picked up at 5:00..

Feb 17   February Luncheon - Roland Soto, Sports Coordinator
Roland Soto, Brownwood's first Sports Coordinator, will be the guest speaker at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce February luncheon.    Roland will outline his vision for the recruitment and improvement of sports activities in the community. 

Under the primary direction of the Executive Director–Economic Development, this position is responsible for recruiting sports events and tournaments to Brownwood that will allow utilization of Brownwood sports facilities including, but not limited to:  The Bert V Massey II Sports Complex (that includes softball and baseball facilities), the Brownwood Soccer Complex, the Brownwood Coliseum, Gordon Wood Stadium, the Pecan Bayou Paddling Trail, the Bennie Houston Recreation Center, the Camp Bowie Recreation Center, the Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center, the skateboard park, the disc golf course, and other parks and recreation facilities.  

Mr. Soto will coordinate sporting events and tournaments with the City Parks and Recreation Department, Brownwood Chamber of Commerce, local and external sports organizations, and other involved organizations to ensure successful events that will market Brownwood as an excellent location for sports events and tournaments of all kinds. 

Roland Soto is a Brownwood native and a 1996 graduate of Brownwood High School.  He currently lives in Brownwood with his wife Esmeralda, and three daughters, Madeline, Marian, and Emma.   

The luncheon will be held at the Brownwood Country Club on Friday, February 17th.  Buffet lunch opens at 11:30 AM and the program will begin at noon.
Cost is $14 per person payable to the Brownwood Country Club for lunch.
