May 6    Cinco de Mayo Celebration
The Arts Council of Brownwood will host the first annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Friday evening, May 6 from 5:00 - 10:00 p.m. in the streets of Historic Downtown Brownwood near the Lyric Theatre. There will be food and craft vendors, activities for children, an area for dancing, and artists painting portraits and caricatures. There will be entertainment in the streets provided by the Matachines de Sta. María Reina de la Paz dancers and Mariachi Los Toros, from Austin. There will also be other activities and contests throughout the evening. The big concert for the evening will be presented by Revolution, a high school string group from Abilene with 20 members between the ages of 14 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyric Theatre. They play a mix of warm country fiddle with the energy of Celtic reels for a lively and inspiring musical performance experience. Revolution has been a special musical guest and several state and national events, including the National Public Radio?s acclaimed show, From the Top. Worldwide Free Comic Book Day Comes to Early with Comics for All Ages!

Jomio and Rueliete's Cards and Comics in Early is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the biggest day in the comic book industry and comic art form, Saturday, May 7th. On Free Comic Book Day, over 5.6 million comic books will be given away by participating stores, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books!

The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages — children, teens, and adults – can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations.

Celebrating its fifteenth year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be a smashing success, spreading the word that comics are a terrific read. Even if you have never picked up a comic book, stop into Jomio and Rueliete's Cards and Comics, because you never know what you will end up finding.

Comic books and graphic novels are considered a hot form of entertainment, that are fun and a smart pick for readers to dive into as imagination comes to life with the turn of every page. Comic Books have propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, many being adapted into movies. The first Saturday of May has been and will continue being a big day in the comic book world.

May 20    Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon
The Brownwood and Early Chambers of Commerce will hold their annual law enforcement appreciation luncheon on Friday, May 20 at the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Connection Center (1715 Coggin Ave) from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This event is intended to honor the men and women in all aspects of law enforcement-who work together to keep the community safe.

 Representatives from area law enforcement agencies will be in attendance to announce special honors earned by their department and/or officers. Each of those agencies or departments has been offered the opportunity to announce their Officer of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Investigator of the Year, or whatever awards may be appropriate for their agency.

 Stan Standridge, Chief of Police in Abilene, TX, will be the guest speaker.
 The Chamber's Monthly Luncheon is open to the public.

This month's luncheon is sponsored by TexasBank.
