Jun 17    June Luncheon - Presentation on New Salary Overtime Rules
The US Department of Labor has implemented new rules regarding overtime pay for salaried workers.    Under the new rules effective December 1st, employers will be required to pay overtime to salaried workers who make $47,476 per year or less.   The new rules will affect 370,000 workers in Texas. 

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will host a luncheon on June 17th with guest speaker Brian Sullivan to outline the new rules and how it will impact employers and employees.

The June luncheon is sponsored by Bruner Auto Group.

Table sponsors include McCoy's Building Supply Center, State Farm Insurance - Mike Hall Agency, and Rural Issues Consultant Bob Turner.

There will also be a chance to win cash in our Ace's Wild drawing sponsored by Brownwood Regional Medical Center as well as several door prizes.

The luncheon will be held Friday, June 17th at the Brownwood Country Club.  Buffet lunch opens at 11:30 AM and the program will begin at noon.  Cost is $14 per person for the lunch to be paid at the door to the Country Club.

Brian Sullivan serves as Associate General Counsel for the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association (THLA), the largest state hotel association in the country. In that role, he helps lead the expert legal department of THLA in its superior legal services, educational resources, and legislative representation to more than 3,300 members.

Brian earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Communication Studies and Sociology from Stephen F. Austin State University.  He later graduated with both his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from Texas Tech University.

With proven experience as a former civil litigation attorney and a revered public speaker, combined with past service to many sectors including corporate, government, and nonprofit, Brian's expertise and leadership allows THLA to better serve you as it continues to meet the needs of the growing lodging industry in Texas.

Juneteenth is a celebration of life and freedom; of diversity and acceptance; of remembrance and reflection.
3 on 3 Basketball Tournament will be Saturday 18th from 10 am to 2 pm. Hosted by Richard Griffin Jr., They can win Basketball gear, Basketball and etc. 
Richard Griffin, known to the Brownwood folks and coaches as “Junior aka Griff”, is excited to be hosting a free 3 on 3 basketball tournament for kids ages 9 to 18 during the Juneteenth celebration.  He is a Brownwood High School graduate and he and his teammates had some phenomenal basketball skills. In 1990, they started the year off with 3-2 but by year’s end they were 30-3 with a 27 game winning streak and he was named district newcomer of the year as well as first team all-district.  And again in 1991, his senior year, they started the season with a 0-4 but finished with an amazing 23-9 and he averaged 23 points per game along with 5 assists per game in which a 23 points average is the highest in Brownwood High School history.  Also in 1991, he was the first team all-district as well as district MVP, first team all-area, first team all-region, and all-state player.  During his tenure, his class of 1991 was the only class to won 100 plus games.
Richard played college basketball and is in his fourth year of coaching with the Dallas Mavericks National Basketball Association developmental league team, “The Texas Legions”.  He also is head of the Dallas Mavericks Basketball Academy. He oversees the basketball skills training department.  During his off season, he does basketball camps as well as team skills training throughout the metroplex for various groups, teams, as well as individuals.
Richard Griffin along with his 1991 High school basketball team members is encouraging teams to come out and have fun and enjoy the game of basketball during the Juneteenth Celebration.
