Jan 17    ACU Springboard Ideas Challenge
The Springboard Ideas Challenge is a mini-business model competition for aspiring entrepreneurs in Abilene and the Big Country. Participants will present an Elevator Pitch in 2 minutes or less for the opportunity to advance to the final round where participants will pitch to local investors. Grand Prize winner will receive $15,000.

Jan 20    Brownwood Mayor State of the City Luncheon
Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes will give his annual State of the City address at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Friday, January 20th.
 
The luncheon will take place at the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Connection Center from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Cost is $16 per person and includes lunch.
 
Mayor Haynes will recap the city happenings for 2016 and will talk about upcoming projects for the new year.
 
 The luncheon is open to the general public. Reservations are required and payment can be made in advance at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce or at the door.

Jan 21    5th Annual Brownwood Area Bridal Fair
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will host their 5th annual Brownwood Area Bridal Fair on Saturday, January 21st at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center in Brownwood.

The fair will host a variety of vendors and will be a resource for soon-to-be brides in planning their special day.  Vendors will showcase their products and services and will be available with tips, techniques, and ideas for the perfect wedding.  Photographers, florists, DJs, party rental, and venues as well as other businesses are just a few of the types of vendors that will be on hand during the event. The bridal fair provides an opportunity for future brides to meet with businesses, all in one location, to help assist in planning the big day.  Door prize drawings will be taking place throughout the day as well, including a grand prize drawing.

The Brownwood Area Bridal Fair will take place from 11 AM - 2 PM on Saturday, January 21st at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center (600 E. Depot Street).  Admission to the show is free.

Beginning at 12:30 PM, participants can enjoy a wine tasting.

Jan 21    BCMoH Family Fun Day w/Sheriff Vance Hill
During the month of January, the Brown County Museum of History will be focusing on the role the Sheriff's Department has played in keeping our community safe. Sheriff Vance Hill will be with us at the Old Jail to talk about how to keep kids safe online. Children will learn about fingerprinting techniques and capture their own fingerprints to put on a personalized Emergency ID card.

Selected works will be eligible for a multitude of awards, and will hang in the Depot gallery for 2 weeks. Works not selected by the juror must be picked up by 4 p.m. on January 30.
