From the builders of some of the earliest railroads to the modern day, this exhibit shows how the Asian culture continues to help write the remarkable story of America. Please join us for a Business After Hours at Aldersgate Enrichment Center!

Attendees are also encouraged to bring a donation to Aldersgate to benefit the victims of Hurricane Harvey.  Aldersgate has decided to pool the resources of the Aldersgate Disaster Relief Program with other local resources.  They will be loading their trucks and trailers with items for immediate need and will be traveling south on September 9th with a response team.

Sep 7    2017 Business Expo & Taste of Brownwood
The 2017 Annual Business Expo & Taste of Brownwood
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 23rd annual Business Expo and Taste of Brownwood event on Thursday, September 7th at the Brownwood Coliseum.  Businesses throughout the area will be participating in this event representing various lines of trade. 
 
The Expo will open at 10:00 AM and will wrap up at 5:30 PM.  Admission at the door will be $2 and complimentary passes are currently available for a limited time at the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce office - 600 E. Depot St.

All visitors to the show will have the opportunity to win booth prizes from each of the exhibitors. Those who participate in  "Expo Bingo"  may enter to win the grand prize - $500 cash.

The Taste of Brownwood will offer the community the opportunity to sample favorite recipes from local restaurants, caterers and bakeries.  From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, expo visitors can sample tasty treats. Each visitor will receive 4 free Taste of Brownwood tickets with the $2 admission fee. Those who choose to enter with a complimentary pass will need to purchase Taste of Brownwood tickets for $1 each at the door the day of the show.

Aldersgate Enrichment Center will be set up at the Expo accepting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.  They will be sending a response team to south Texas on September 9th.

Sep 7    Art Center-Christopher Gaston
Christopher Gaston will be our September first Thursday Exhibitor for the Brownwood art association. The reception is held Sept. 7th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Art Center.
Christopher is a digital artist whose pieces often invoke a sense of wonder and imagination.  They are full of vivid colors, texture, and fluid expression.  He has been creating original works of art for close to 20 years and has around 300 digital pieces.  Christopher is originally from the San Angelo area, but has been living in Brownwood since 2004.  He is presently teaching mathematics at Victory Life Academy in Brownwood, TX.  He enjoys playing his guitar at the Art Association's monthly AMP venue and is currently working on several book projects

Sep 8     Lt. Governor Dan Patrick hosted by Brown County Republican Women's Club
Brown County Republican Women’s Club will feature Lt. Governor Dan Patrick as guest speaker for their September meeting.  The Lt. Governor will talk about the recently ended session of the Texas Legislature and take a few questions. 
 
The meeting will be held on Friday, September 8th at 8 AM at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center in Brownwood.  The meeting is open to the public at no cost. 
 
The Brown County Republican Women's Club will also be accepting cash donations at the event to benefit Hurricane Harvey victims through the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department.   The money will be used to purchase needed supplies during their cleanup effort.
 
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will be taking reservations for this event.  Those interested in attending can call 325-646-9535. Limited seating is available.

Sep 18    Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar - Good for Texas Tour Presentation
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will stop in Brownwood on Monday, September 18th as part of his Good for Texas Tour: Manufacturing Edition.  Hegar, alongside local officials, will tour the 3M, Kohler and Superior Essex manufacturing plants as part of his visit.

Hegar will make a public presentation about the tour and the impact of manufacturing in Texas at 2:30 PM at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center located at 600 E. Depot Street in Brownwood.  The public is invited to the presentation to hear the Comptroller's remarks.

In all, Texas manufacturers were responsible for 3 million direct and indirect jobs in 2016. The average annual salary for direct jobs is nearly $75,000. In 2016, Texas manufacturers exported $210.3 billion in goods and contributed $225.8 billion to the GDP.

Glenn Hegar serves as the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and was elected to office in 2014.

The Texas Comptroller's office was originally created by the Texas provisional government in 1835. The Comptroller is the chief steward of the state's finances, acting as tax collector, chief accountant, chief revenue estimator and chief treasurer for all of state government, in addition to administering a number of other programs.

Souper Thursday is a monthly get-together and fundraiser for the Brownwood Community Garden. For a $10 donation, you receive a mug with soup donated by a local restaurant. The  next month you can bring the mug back and fill it with soup for only $5.00 !
