Nov 12    The World War 1 Centennial Veterans Day / Armistice Day program
The World War 1 Centennial Veterans Day / Armistice Day program
has honored the Central Texas Veterans Memorial as one of only 100 Official World War I Centennial Memorials. Of the first 50 Memorials selected, we were the only one in Texas! We are extremely honored to have two very high ranking and very highly decorated flag officers as our keynote speakers.
Lieutenant General  (3 star) James Terry Scott graduated from Coleman High School in 1960 where his father was high school principal. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1964. Terry served five combat tours and commanded every unit from a platoon to a division. His last assignment was the Commanding General of the Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg (Delta Force, Green Berets, Special Forces) He later taught at Howard Payne University. After retiring, Terry helped all veterans by Chairing the bi-partisan Veterans’ Disability Benefits Commission and later Chaired the Advisory Committee on Disability Compensation and Health Issues on behalf of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Rear Admiral Jeffrey A Lemmons (2 star) graduated from Brownwood High School in 1975 and from the United States Naval Academy in 1979. He was designated as a naval aviator in November 1980. He was selected as an Admiral in 2004 and was assigned as the Commander,  Naval Air Force Reserve and Vice Commander, Naval Air Forces, North Island, San Diego. After an exceptionally remarkable career that involved critical strategic assignments all over the world, Jeff says “I’m a guy from Brownwood who was proud to represent our country. I got to serve our Navy and nation and am now back in Brownwood with my family at GATOR PUMP and enjoying some ranching and farming.” Truly an understatement!
