Events for March 2018
Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce
Feb 19 - Mar 16    Growing and Going Brownwood Area Community Garden
As a non-profit, we are always struggling to pay our Garden Coordinator, Daniel Graham. The Community Garden has 64 raised beds (3 feet by 20 feet). Thirty-four of the beds are what we call pantry beds. The food grown in these beds is donated to food pantries and local groups that feed people in need. We believe that all people should have access to fresh, naturally grown foods. The other 30 beds are available for citizens to lease. By leasing a bed, the gardener has a well-maintained bed with irrigation along with people to help with their gardening questions. This is what makes this garden a Community Garden. It is a resource for anyone and everyone. Without a Garden Coordinator, the Community Garden would cease to exist in Brownwood. So, we are calling on YOU to help us with a donation to keep the Community Garden Going and Growing.

Lease a 3 foot by 20 foot raised garden bed to plant your veggies in. Each bed comes with drip irrigation that is controlled by an automatic timer. Mar 16    March Luncheon - Center for Life Resources
The topic of mental health has been in the news media recently and it is important to remember that Brown County has many local mental health resources.

For the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce March luncheon, the staff at Center for Life Resources will outline the topic of mental health and discuss the resources available in our area for anyone needing help.

This luncheon is presented by Bruner Auto Group.   Supporting sponsors include Kohler and Wendlee Broadcasting.

In 1970, The Central Texas Mental Heath Mental Retardation Center (CTMHMR, now dba Center for Life Resources) was established after a long range planning by several community advocates, for the mentally challenged, i.e., Janie Clements, Reverand John Darden, and W. Lee Watson.

As an agency of the State, the Center has provided services in the counties of Brown, Eastland, Coleman, Comanche, San Saba, Mills, and McCulloch for individuals with mental illness, mental retardation, and substance abuse.

A 24-Hour Crisis Intervention Hotline is available to the residents of the region and works cooperatively with local law enforcement agencies and hospitals.
A nine-member board governs the Center. Eight members are appointed by the County Commissioners and one is appointed by the Brownwood City Council. These members represent the respective counties served.
