May 7    CASA 101
Information session to address the questions and concerns of adult community members who are interested in the possibility of serving abused/neglected children as Court Appointed Special Advocates. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers are ordinary people doing extraordinary work for abused, neglected and abandoned children and youth in foster care in our community. As sworn officers of the court, CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to advocate one-on-one for children and youth in foster care. As an Advocate you will be more than just a mentor – you will be a powerful voice for a child or youth during their uncertain journey in the child protective/ foster care system. Learn more about the work Advocates do, the qualifications to become a CASA, commitments involved, how to begin the process of becoming a CASA, and the training and support that are provided. Everyone can't be a CASA. We are looking for the right people... who are passionate about children, are willing to learn, have a schedule that is flexible enough to accommodate the work that must be done, can communicate on a fairly high level with a variety of people in a variety of positions and circumstances, function well as part of a team, and who genuinely have a desire to help a child or children during a significantly difficult time. If you feel you might have such a calling, please join us to take the first step by getting the information. If you can't be there, please contact us to let us know you are interested and arrange to get the information another way.

May 11    Boys & Girls Club Barn Dance-Mark Chesnutt
Country music sensation, Mark Chesnutt returns, by popular demand, as the featured entertainer at “The 18th Annual Texas Barn Dance” fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Brown County. Chesnutt was the headliner of the event in 2015 held at Sorrel Canyon Ranch. This year’s event will be held at 3 Springs Ranch in Zephyr on Saturday night May 11th.

Mark got his start in the honky-tonks of Beaumont, Texas playing alongside his dad, Bob Chesnutt, and began making a name for himself. Mark hit the national country music scene in 1990 with his debut album “Too Cold at Home”. Half the songs from that album became hit singles including, “Blame It On Texas”, “Your Love Is A Miracle”, “Brother Jukebox”, “Too Cold at Home” and “Broken Promise Land”. Other top ten hits include “Almost Goodbye”, “Old Flames Have New Names”, “It’s A Little Too Late” and “Bubba Shot the Juke Box”.

Mark Chesnutt’s stature is easily gauged; he has 14 Number 1 hits, 23 top 10 singles, 4 platinum albums and 5 gold records.

This year’s venue,3 Springs Ranch, is located on County Road 261 in Zephyr, and is a multifunctional 2,100-acre ranch boasting lush hunting, luxurious accommodations and outstanding amenities for events. The Texas Barn Dance will be held in the Ranch’s event Pavilion that features a grand fireplace, chandeliers, stage, dance area and wrap around patio.

In addition to an evening of dancing to the live performance by Chesnutt, the Texas Barn Dance will feature a delicious tenderloin meal, open bar, live and silent auctions and the opportunity to visit with friends while supporting The Boys & Girls Club of Brown County. Tickets will go on sale March 1st.

Monies raised at the 2019 Texas Barn Dance will be critical to the 2019-2020 operating budget of The Boys & Girls Club of Brown County. The Club provides a positive place for children 6-18 years of age to go after school and during the summer.

May 18    Miles Williams & Hammer Down at the Hideout
Kid friendly no cover!

There are many things to be said about Miles Williams, but to really understand his passion and love for music, to know his work ethic and convictions to strive to be the best is evident in his music and personality alike. Those things combined with humility and a "never forget where you come from", know your roots in music mentality is what will surely prove him to be a great artist, leader, an outlaw and with the test of time a country legend. He strives to change the way you listen and perceive music today. He has a short list of musical influences, that has become evident in his music and live performances (John Prine, Gary Stewart and Jim Morrison). He has heavy emphasis on lyrics with story telling mixed with real life experiences to transcend the music to a symbiotic relationship between him and the listener. To know him is to realize the humility he has and appreciation for each and every fan. Entertaining 1 to 100,000 you will see he doesn't do this for a "job" but for the love of performing and touching his listeners.
